Professor / Senior Lecturer in Private Law (Family & Children’s Rights)

About the role

The Faculty of Law at Stellenbosch University seeks an academic leader for the Department of Private Law. The incumbent will primarily teach Children’s Rights and Family Law, contribute to research, supervise postgraduate students, and support the department’s administrative functions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures in Children’s Rights, Family Law and other private law modules.
• Conduct active research and publish in accredited law journals.
• Supervise postgraduate research projects in the relevant fields.
• Participate in the administrative functioning of the Faculty.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Faculty.

Required profile

• LLD or PhD in Private Law.
• Established record of publication in accredited law journals (for senior ranks) or demonstrated research aptitude (for lecturer level).
• Experience in postgraduate mentorship and supervision.
• Experience in undergraduate teaching or exposure to it.
• Strong interest in research, good interpersonal skills, and multilingual ability.
• Legal practical experience and a strong academic record, including NRF rating where applicable.
