Professor or Associate Professor – Faculty of Law

About the role

The Faculty of Law is seeking highly qualified candidates to join its academic team as a Professor or Associate Professor. This senior academic position involves teaching, research, community engagement, and contributing to the governance of the faculty.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including Master's and PhD programmes.
• Conduct and publish original research, enhancing the faculty’s national and international reputation.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff, candidate attorneys, and postgraduate research students.
• Participate in departmental, faculty, and university governance, undertaking administrative and leadership duties.
• Engage with the broader community through outreach and collaborative projects.

Required profile

• PhD in Law with an LLB from a South African university.
• For Professor: minimum 10 years of relevant experience, extensive teaching record, strong professional track record, and a national/international profile in the discipline.
• For Associate Professor: 7‑10 years of relevant experience, considerable teaching experience, preferably in Procedural Law, and an emerging national/international profile.
• Demonstrated excellence in research supervision of Master’s and PhD candidates.
• Proven record of training, mentoring, and supervising junior staff or candidate attorneys.
