Professional Officer - Environmental Management

About the role

A Legal department in Cape Town is looking for a meticulous and organised Professional Officer to support its Environmental Compliance team, which handles significant litigation and environmental risk management. The successful candidate will manage legal documentation, conduct research and provide administrative support.

Key responsibilities

• Draft formal correspondence such as notices, letters and reports to Council committees
• Review submissions such as comments, objections, notices, draft contracts, MoUs and MoAs
• Schedule, track and document complex administrative processes involving internal and external stakeholders, including provincial and national government authorities
• Draw up documents and reports for review and finalisation under delegated authority
• Liaise with municipal staff and other stakeholders
• Assist with meetings, including logistics and preparation
• Handle project administration, planning and project management so that processes meet required timeframes and outcomes

Required profile

• Relevant 3-year tertiary qualification, preferably a B-Degree in Environmental Law; LLB advantageous
• 2 to 5 years of relevant legal experience
• Valid driver's licence and own transport
