Professional Nurse – Neurology

About the role

The Professional Nurse, working within a multi‑professional team at Mediclinic Gariep, delivers safe, comprehensive, and quality nursing care in the Neurology department, adhering to Scope of Practice regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver quality nursing care in collaboration with a multi‑professional team.
• Identify, prevent, and manage risks to ensure patient safety.
• Facilitate a positive client experience by creating a conducive environment.
• Provide accurate and comprehensive records of all nursing interventions.
• Create a learning environment that builds staff competence.
• Ensure that all utilised stock and equipment are accurately charted.

Required profile

• Diploma leading to registration as a General Nurse or a 4‑year Nursing Diploma/Bachelor of Nursing (essential).
• Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Midwifery or Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (e.g., Critical Care, Emergency Care, Peri‑operative) – desired for specialist units.

Required skills

• Basic life support training (ACLS, ATLS, PALS) for specialised wards.
• Computer literacy with Microsoft Office.
• Development and modification of nursing care plans.
• Infection prevention and control practices.
• Patient assessment and nursing record‑keeping.
• Pharmacology knowledge and risk identification.
