Professional Accountant / Financial Accountant

About the role

Join a growing professional accounting firm! An excellent opportunity exists for an experienced Professional Accountant / Financial Accountant to join a well‑established and expanding accounting, audit and advisory practice based in Somerset West. We are looking for a detail‑oriented accounting professional who enjoys working with a diverse portfolio of SME clients and has experience preparing high‑quality annual financial statements, management accounts, tax compliance, and providing accounting support to business owners.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and draft Annual Financial Statements (AFS) in accordance with IFRS for SMEs.
• Compile monthly and annual management accounts.
• Prepare and review working papers and supporting schedules.
• Maintain accurate general ledger and trial balance reconciliations.
• Process journals and year‑end accounting adjustments.
• Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE and Income Tax returns.
• Liaise directly with clients, SARS and other stakeholders.
• Assist with independent reviews and audit preparation.
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and South African legislation.
• Manage a portfolio of accounting clients while maintaining excellent service levels.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Financial Accounting or similar.
• 1 – 8+ years' experience within a professional accounting, audit or consulting firm.
• Experience drafting Annual Financial Statements for multiple clients.
• Sound knowledge of IFRS for SMEs.
• Experience with CaseWare, Draftworx or similar financial‑statement software.
• Working knowledge of Xero, Sage Pastel, QuickBooks and/or Sage Accounting.
• Experience with SARS eFiling, VAT, PAYE and Income Tax submissions.
• Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple client deadlines.
