Process or Mechanical Engineer

About the role

DIEP Consultants is seeking a motivated Process or Mechanical Engineer to support design, feasibility, and asset integrity projects across oil & gas, water treatment, and mining sectors. The role offers direct mentorship from the Managing Director and hands‑on exposure to HAZOP studies and plant commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate contractor tender submissions and prepare tender proposals.
• Compile datasheets, quantity schedules, quality plans, and cost estimates.
• Interpret process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment layouts.
• Perform equipment sizing calculations for compressors, separators, heat exchangers, distillation columns, pumps, etc.
• Conduct pipe stress and beam stress analyses, pressure‑vessel sizing, and 3D model reviews.
• Prepare engineering reports, material and energy balance calculations, and utility load designs.
• Assist with regulatory compliance checks and plant commissioning activities.
• Communicate project progress verbally and in writing, and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Required profile

• BEng or BSc in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (preferably from NWU, Tuks, Wits, or Stellenbosch).
• 0‑2 years of relevant experience; recent graduates are welcome.
• Strong interest in oil & gas and water‑related projects.
• Can‑do attitude, willingness to work hard, and ability to handle multiple assignments.
