Process Artisan – Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance

About the role

The Process Artisan is responsible for maintaining and optimising production equipment in a high‑speed FMCG bottling environment. The role combines mechanical, electrical and pneumatic expertise to ensure line availability and product quality.

Key responsibilities

• Perform planned and preventive maintenance on production equipment, including mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems.
• Conduct fault‑finding, repairs and replacements to minimise line stoppages and improve equipment availability.
• Support daily line operations, including start‑up, changeovers, shutdowns and optimisation of high‑speed packaging lines.
• Monitor and adjust equipment to meet product specifications, ensuring compliance with GMP, HACCP and ISO standards.
• Carry out risk assessments, LOTO procedures and maintain a clean, safe 5S work environment.
• Participate in root‑cause analysis, continuous‑improvement projects and document maintenance activities in the ERP system.

Required profile

• National Diploma or Trade Test Certificate (NQF Level 4‑6) in Mechanical Fitting, Millwright, Electrical or Mechatronics; valid trade test required.
• 2‑3 years post‑apprenticeship experience in an FMCG or bottling environment, preferably on high‑speed packaging lines.
• Working knowledge of maintenance planning, execution and basic PLC/SCADA interfaces.

Required skills

• Strong mechanical and electrical fault‑finding and troubleshooting.
• Pneumatics and hydraulics systems knowledge.
• Basic PLC programming and SCADA interface familiarity.
• Equipment calibration, testing and condition monitoring.
• Root‑cause failure analysis (RCFA) and continuous‑improvement techniques.
• Understanding of GMP, HACCP, ISO quality systems and LOTO safety procedures.
