Principal Software Engineer

About the role

IQbusiness’s Technology Division is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join its Product Engineering team in Cape Town. The role is hands‑on and high‑impact, focusing on building secure, scalable solutions for wealth and asset management firms operating in a regulated fintech environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and own end‑to‑end software delivery, from ambiguous requirements to production adoption.
• Shape architecture decisions and raise engineering standards across the team.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers and fellow engineers to deliver client‑focused features.
• Implement, monitor and troubleshoot deployments using observability tools.
• Drive AI‑first engineering practices, integrating AI tools throughout the development lifecycle.

Required profile

• Extensive experience at Senior, Staff, Lead or Principal level delivering production‑ready software.
• Proven ability to work in regulated, compliance‑driven fintech environments.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ownership mindset with a focus on quality and delivery excellence.

Required skills

• TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Node.js.
• SQL and relational database expertise.
• Hands‑on cloud experience with AWS or comparable platforms.
• Architecture and systems design, deployment, observability and production troubleshooting.
• Secure software development practices, accessibility standards and compliance awareness.
• Practical use of AI tools, prompt engineering and AI‑assisted development.
