Principal Clerk – Accounting (Grade 07)

About the role

The Finance Department of the Expenditure Directorate is seeking a Principal Clerk (Accounting) to support the Corporate Accounts Division. This permanent position will handle a range of accounting and administrative tasks, ensuring accurate financial reporting and effective supplier liaison.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and distribute templates for annual and interim financial statement working papers.
• Collect, check, and consolidate departmental accounting working papers.
• Assist in preparing notes, appendices, and monthly balance sheets for financial statements.
• Process payment vouchers received by the division.
• Respond to queries from suppliers and internal divisions.
• Provide general administrative support to the branch/division and assist with internal and external audit requests.
• Accompany the Finance Manager and Accountant to meetings and undertake related assignments as required.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent with Mathematics Core and/or Accounting.
• Valid motor vehicle driving licence.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience and computer literacy.
• Preferred: Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Accounting and 3 years of relevant experience.
