Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant – Table Bay (Cape Town)

About the role

Dis-Chem is seeking a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Table Bay store in Cape Town. Working under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, you will support dispensing activities, provide excellent customer service, and ensure compliance with South African pharmacy regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Sell Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines and assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines.
• Assist in compounding, manipulation, and preparation of non‑sterile or sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs.
• Re‑package medicines and manage stock distribution for Schedule 1‑5 substances.
• Read and prepare prescriptions, label and supply medicines, and provide usage instructions to patients.
• Capture and verify patient details, process medical aid claims, and correct rejected scripts.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of drug interactions, dosages, and medical aid procedures.
• Follow through on special orders and ensure all medication is checked and signed by a pharmacist.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with Mathematics (Higher Grade), Life Science and/or Physical Science, minimum 50% average.
• Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification.
• Strong computer and numerical skills.
• Ability to work accurately under supervision and adhere to legal requirements.
