Plant Manager – Pharmacy Compounding

About the role

The Plant Manager will safeguard patient health by ensuring every compounded medication produced in the pharmacy meets the highest standards of safety, quality and efficacy. Reporting to senior leadership, you will optimise operational processes, maintain regulatory compliance and lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver customised pharmaceutical care.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all compounded products comply with the Medicines and Related Substances Act and the Pharmacy Act, maintaining a valid compounding licence.
• Oversee daily pharmacy operations, driving efficiency while upholding Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) guidelines.
• Maintain accurate batch records, formulation documentation and quality control logs.
• Lead, mentor and develop pharmacy staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
• Troubleshoot equipment and process issues, implementing corrective actions promptly.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, regulatory bodies and internal departments to address patient and product needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm) preferred; qualified Post‑Basic Pharmacist’s Assistant preferred.
• Active registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) preferred.
• 5‑7 years of pharmacy experience, including at least 3 years in a compounding environment.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of compounding techniques and equipment.
• Strong understanding of SAPC regulations and Good Pharmacy Practice guidelines.
• Comprehensive grasp of pharmacology, drug interactions and therapeutic uses.
• Experience with quality assurance and quality control procedures in compounding.
• Ability to interpret and apply South African pharmacy regulations.
