Pit Grade Control Geologist

About the role

The Pit Grade Control Geologist is responsible for implementing and continuously updating the grade control model for pit mining operations. The role focuses on ore utilisation, regular geological mapping, and ensuring accurate data capture to support mining decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and maintain the grade control model using in‑pit data.
• Conduct geological plan task observations (PTO) and liaise with mining personnel and contractors.
• Reconcile estimated plant feed with actual feed on a weekly basis and propose improvement actions.
• Capture drill logs, lithology, and other geological data in the Grade Control Database.
• Perform quality audits on samples and ensure accurate sampling, mapping, and data entry.
• Use ore destination tracking systems to prevent cross‑contamination of waste and ore.
• Monitor blasting, post‑block demarcation, and audit drilled blocks for QA/QC compliance.
• Schedule and oversee Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling programmes to meet grade‑control requirements.
• Interpret mining geology data, assess dilution and ore‑loss, and provide inputs to mining operations.
• Conduct geological logging, sample dispatch to laboratory, and update the grade control model periodically.

Required profile

• Experience in pit mining geology and grade‑control activities.
• Strong understanding of ore utilisation, dilution, and ore‑loss measurement.
• Proficiency in field data collection, sample handling, and laboratory coordination.
• Ability to work closely with mining teams, contractors, and safety personnel.
