Phlebotomist – Cape Town Southern Suburbs

About the role

MHR is looking for experienced Phlebotomists to support a private hospital in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. The position is part‑time, covering emergency centre shifts when a permanent phlebotomist is unavailable, and includes complimentary indemnity insurance.

Key responsibilities

• Draw blood and other specimens from patients in line with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
• Perform routine and complex specimen‑collecting procedures while maintaining a sterile work environment.
• Provide pre‑ and post‑test counselling to patients and families, explaining procedures and answering questions.
• Identify, prevent, and report risks to ensure patient safety.
• Accurately record and process patient and clinical information, including stock usage.
• Collaborate with the multi‑disciplinary emergency centre team.

Required profile

• Reside in Cape Town Southern Suburbs or surrounding areas.
• Enrolled Nurse or Phlebotomy Technician with a certificate in Phlebotomy Techniques.
• Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) or the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Technician – Phlebotomy.
• 1–2 years of phlebotomy experience, preferably with paediatric patients and arterial blood gases.
• Vaccinated against Hepatitis B (or willing to receive vaccination if hired).
