Pharmacist – Hospital & Retail Pharmacy

About the role

The Pharmacist is responsible for providing medication and supplementary services to patients and the healthcare team, ensuring safe and cost‑effective care. The role includes dispensing prescriptions, advising on drug use, and supporting clinical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Dispense hospital and retail prescriptions, including oncology drugs, while adhering to pharmacy policies and legal requirements.
• Provide patient counseling on medication selection, dosage, interactions, side effects, storage and general health matters.
• Manage stock control: acquire, store, handle, and package medicines, conduct cyclical and full stock takes, and reorder as needed.
• Act as custodian for Schedule 5 & 6 drugs, maintaining accurate records in line with legislative requirements.
• Supervise and guide pharmacy assistants and interns, ensuring teamwork and professional development.
• Perform administrative and housekeeping tasks related to pharmacy operations.

Required profile

• Relevant pharmaceutical qualification (B.Pharm. or Dip.Pharm) and registration with the South African Pharmacy Council.
• Work experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy environment.
• Sound knowledge of pharmacy business operations and advanced computer literacy.
• Ability to maintain professional standards and comply with safety and legal regulations.
