Payroll Team Leader (Midrand)

About the role

Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Midrand is seeking a Payroll Team Leader to join its Head Office team. The role involves supervising and administering payroll functions in line with business requirements while maintaining employee records with strict confidentiality.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise all payroll activities, ensure compliance with policies, and manage payroll changes across the organisation.
• Run the Dis‑Chem payroll when the Payroll Manager or Support Administrator is unavailable and assist staff with data, leave and overtime corrections.
• Sign off new employee onboarding, banking details, terminations, and changes in SAP, as well as provident fund, medical aid and other deductions.
• Generate payroll‑related reports for regions and stakeholders and follow up with stores on missing or incorrect documentation.
• Escalate unresolved issues to the Payroll Manager and ensure daily banking processes are completed on time.
• Provide day‑to‑day support to the payroll team, act as second‑in‑command, and enforce performance and HR procedures.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or relevant accounting qualification with 5+ years payroll experience, including 2–3 years in a supervisory role.
• South African citizenship, clear criminal and credit record, and a valid driver’s licence or reliable transport.
• Strong knowledge of payroll policies, ability to analyse data, make informed decisions and communicate effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to change, enforce regulations and build constructive working relationships.
