Payroll Coordinator (Payroll Manager)

About the role

The Payroll Coordinator will lead the planning, control and execution of payroll data and pay runs for Global Shared Services (GSS) in Rosebank, Johannesburg. This role ensures accurate, timely payroll processing while supporting stakeholder engagement across Anglo American and De Beers.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and control the timely and accurate processing of all payroll input documentation in line with SLA targets.
• Maintain weekly and monthly checklists, ensuring adherence to process and service standards.
• Interpret, communicate and coach staff on relevant policies, procedures and governance requirements.
• Identify risks, implement mitigation actions and resolve incidents with appropriate quality controls.
• Oversee tax submissions, internal and external audits, and ensure no moderate or major findings.
• Log and report incidents, perform RACM reviews and annual attestations, and deliver accurate monthly reporting statistics.
• Collaborate with the wider Global Shared Services team to build capacity, manage projects, and drive continuous improvement.
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships through effective service delivery.

Required profile

• Proven experience in payroll coordination or management within a large shared‑services environment.
• Strong understanding of payroll governance, tax compliance and audit processes.
• Excellent risk‑management and issue‑resolution capabilities.
• Ability to lead teams, monitor performance and conduct performance reviews.
• Effective stakeholder communication and project‑management skills.
