Operations Manager – Squid Operations (Seafood)

About the role

The client is a leading processor and distributor of seafood products seeking an Operations Manager to lead its squid fishing fleet at the Gqerberha plant. You will be responsible for strategic and day‑to‑day management of fleet performance, ensuring safety, efficiency and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily office operations to maintain business continuity.
• Manage the squid fishing fleet, including vessel scheduling, maintenance and cost control.
• Lead crew management and labour relations across all vessels.
• Coordinate docking, offloading and related maritime activities.
• Ensure compliance with SAMSA, DFFE permits, fisheries legislation, OHS Act and Maritime Labour Convention.
• Prepare and manage operational budgets and financial reporting.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of commercial fishing experience.
• At least 5 years in an operational management role overseeing multiple vessels.
• Experience supervising crews and handling maritime safety and regulatory compliance.
• Relevant qualifications such as Fisheries Management, Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, Operations Management or Business Management (grade 12 minimum; tertiary preferred).
• Valid skipper or vessel certification and medical fitness where applicable.
