Operational Paramedic

About the role

The Operational Paramedic will attend emergency calls and provide advanced medical care within the scope of practice, ensuring operational readiness and a positive public image for ER24 Cape Winelands. This permanent, on‑site position is based in Paarl, South Africa, reporting to the ER24 team.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and ensure operational readiness for emergency calls.
• Administer patient care in line with the defined scope of practice.
• Market and maintain a positive public image for ER24.
• Provide basic shift administration services.

Required profile

• Essential education: Critical Care Assistant (CCA) or National Diploma in Emergency Medical Care or Diploma in Emergency Medical Care.
• Desired education: Completion of training related to Clinical Practice Guidelines published by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (training to be completed during probation if not already compliant).
• Essential minimum experience: Newly qualified ALS with operational EMS experience.
• Desired experience: At least 1 year of ALS operational experience.

Required skills

• Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Working knowledge of EMS environment and related protocols.
• Familiarity with facilities, travel routes and the demographical area served.
• Understanding of HPCSA guidelines and scope of practice.
• Ability to complete Patient Report Forms accurately.
• Proficiency in written and verbal English.
• Application of best practice in emergency medical care.
