About the role

Join a leading private hospital in Gauteng as an Operating Theatre Trained Registered Nurse. You will provide comprehensive peri‑operative care in a fast‑paced surgical environment, ensuring patient safety and supporting the surgical team.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver evidence‑based peri‑operative nursing care in line with hospital policies and best practice.
• Prepare the operating theatre, ensuring all instruments, equipment and consumables are sterile and functional.
• Act as Scrub Nurse, maintaining strict aseptic technique and managing the sterile field throughout procedures.
• Anticipate surgeon needs by accurately handling and passing instruments, sutures and specialised equipment.
• Perform accurate surgical counts of instruments, swabs, needles and consumables.
• Assist with patient positioning, preparation and draping while safeguarding dignity and pressure‑area care.
• Monitor patients during the peri‑operative process and report any changes promptly.
• Maintain theatre equipment, specialised instruments and surgical devices.
• Document all peri‑operative activities accurately and timely.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention, sterilisation and quality‑assurance protocols.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists and multidisciplinary team members to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Participate in emergency procedures and support high‑acuity cases.
• Mentor junior nursing staff, students and newly appointed theatre personnel.
• Manage stock control and cost‑effective utilisation of theatre consumables.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with current South African Nursing Council (SANC) registration.
• Extensive experience working in an operating theatre environment.
• Demonstrated competence in aseptic technique and scrub nursing.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to SANC regulations.
