Occupational Health & Safety Consultant

About the role

The Occupational Health & Safety Consultant will drive implementation, monitoring and auditing of OHS policies for the Absa Group across its African operations. You will ensure compliance with legislation, support regional business units, and lead investigations and audits to mitigate workplace risks.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor OHS standards and the Management Information System (MIS) by collecting quarterly reports from all Absa workplaces.
• Provide expert advice on the OHS Act and COID, and liaise with Business Units such as CRES, Regional Operations, Group Wellness, Human Capital and Group Learning.
• Conduct site inspections, injury investigations and proactive OHS audits, preparing detailed reports with recommendations.
• Assist regional teams in achieving compliance, send reminders, and escalate non‑compliance to senior management.
• Support the development and revision of OHS policies, procedures and standards.
• Help in‑country consultants compile annual OHS plans, obtain approvals and address queries.
• Maintain the OHS SharePoint site and provide training material or facilitate sessions when needed.

Required profile

• Proven experience in occupational health and safety compliance, risk management and audit within a corporate environment.
• Strong knowledge of OHS legislation, the OHS Act and COID regulations.
• Ability to work across multiple African regions and coordinate with diverse business units.
• Excellent analytical and reporting skills, with the capacity to produce clear investigation and audit reports.
• Effective communication skills for delivering training and stakeholder engagement.
