Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner

About the role

The Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner is responsible for coordinating and delivering quality medical surveillance and care to client employees, promoting health, protection and restoration within a safe working environment. The role operates under the direction of the Unit Manager, Clinical Coordinator, Regional Operations Manager and the Occupational Health Medical Practitioner.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct annual, periodic and pre‑employment medical surveillance, including trigger, transfer and follow‑up examinations.
• Participate in health risk assessments, develop occupational risk evaluation profiles (OREPs) and perform risk‑based medicals.
• Perform monthly clinic audits, generate month‑end reports and ensure compliance with NOH policies, procedures and external audit requirements.
• Manage medical waste, medication stock, equipment calibration and maintenance according to standards.
• Provide health education, in‑service training and support to staff while ensuring confidentiality and proper PPE use.

Required profile

• Diploma or BTech in General Nursing, Midwifery or Occupational Health; registered with the South African Nursing Council as a general nurse and Occupational Health Nurse specialist.
• Registered Audiometrist with certification in Spirometry and vision screening.
• 2–5 years of experience in an occupational health environment.
• Basic Life Support capability, HIV/AIDS counselling skills and basic computer literacy.
