Network & Security Engineer – 6‑month contract, potential permanent

About the role

Our client, a leading insurance organisation, is seeking an experienced Network & Security Engineer for a six‑month contract with the possibility of becoming a permanent employee based on performance. The role is fully office‑based in Johannesburg.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and support enterprise LAN, WAN, WLAN and datacentre networks.
• Administer FortiGate firewalls, VPNs, NAT and security policies.
• Configure and maintain Extreme Networks switching infrastructure.
• Support Azure networking and hybrid cloud connectivity.
• Monitor network performance, troubleshoot incidents and ensure high availability.
• Maintain technical documentation, disaster‑recovery readiness and security standards.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, security and application teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of enterprise network engineering experience.
• Hands‑on experience with FortiGate firewalls and Extreme Networks switches.
• Strong knowledge of routing and switching protocols (OSPF, BGP, VLANs, STP).
• Experience with Azure networking, hybrid connectivity and VPN solutions.
• Background in financial services or insurance is an advantage.
