Network Cabling Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Network Cabling Design Engineer to create CAD drawings and design documentation for a high‑density US‑based technical facility. The role is based in Century City, Cape Town and focuses on structured data cabling and network infrastructure design.

Key responsibilities

• Translate logical network topology (core, distribution, access) into physical fibre and copper cabling layouts.
• Collaborate with network/IT teams to confirm switch‑to‑rack mappings, uplink counts and redundancy paths.
• Design fibre plant including backbone routes, ODF locations, splice enclosures, bend‑radius management and slack storage.
• Specify fibre types, connector families (LC, SC, MPO/MTP) and termination solutions.
• Produce fibre schedules with core counts, link lengths, loss‑budget calculations and test criteria to TIA‑526‑14/‑7.
• Design copper runs to TIA‑568 category specifications and generate patch‑panel and rack‑elevation drawings.
• Define demarcation points between horizontal copper runs and fibre backbone.

Required profile

• Eligible to work in South Africa (South African citizen or permanent resident).
• Proven experience in structured data cabling and network infrastructure design.
• Ability to produce accurate CAD drawings.
• Understanding of logical network topology and redundancy concepts.
• Familiarity with power distribution design is a plus.
