MS Server Engineer (Level 1)

About the role
As an MS Server Engineer (L1) you will be the first point of contact for NTT DATA clients, ensuring their Windows Server environments remain operational and compliant with service level agreements. You will provide first‑line incident resolution, perform routine maintenance, and support disaster‑recovery activities.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor server performance, availability and health on a daily basis.
- Perform routine tasks such as patch management, Windows Updates and configuration changes.
- Create, modify, disable user accounts, reset passwords and manage AD groups and permissions.
- Administer DNS, DHCP and basic networking settings.
- Run backup jobs, verify success and assist with restoration when required.
- Provide telephonic, ticket‑based or chat support for standard and low‑complexity incidents.
- Document incidents, hand over shifts smoothly and contribute to knowledge‑base articles.
- Support project work, disaster‑recovery testing and optimisation initiatives across multiple technology domains.
Required profile
- Matric/Grade 12; Diploma or degree in IT, Computer Science or related field (advantageous).
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified Fundamentals, MCSA/Windows Server, CompTIA Server+ (ITIL Foundation advantageous).
- Basic understanding of Windows Server administration, Active Directory, DNS/DHCP and Group Policy.
- Familiarity with backup/recovery procedures, patch management and basic networking (TCP/IP, LAN/WAN).
- Experience with remote support tools and basic virtualization (VMware or Hyper‑V).
