Modern Trade Sales Representative – SPAR (Pretoria)

About the role

Diplomat Distributors South Africa is seeking a Modern Trade Sales Representative focused on the SPAR retail network in Gauteng (Pretoria). Reporting to the Modern Trade Fields Sales Manager, you will drive sustainable growth by moving beyond basic account maintenance to develop strategic, high‑impact relationships with store managers and merchandisers.

Key responsibilities

• Own sales performance across an allocated SPAR customer base, meeting monthly sales, distribution and display targets.
• Promote approved commercial solutions, including new product innovations and Power SKUs.
• Manage the full order‑to‑shelf process, ensuring on‑shelf availability, planogram compliance and optimal shelf visibility.
• Negotiate off‑shelf and secondary placements to maximise product exposure.
• Maintain appropriate stock levels, especially during promotional periods, and prevent shortages.
• Educate agency merchandisers on new products, category initiatives and merchandising principles.
• Collaborate with planners, trade‑marketing, KAMs and merchandising teams to meet sales objectives and proactively resolve issues.
• Execute promotions, planograms and new product listings according to head‑office agreements.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in modern trade, specifically within the SPAR retail environment.
• Proven track record of driving sales volume and achieving measurable growth.
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to translate strategy into in‑store success.
• Excellent relationship‑building skills with store‑level stakeholders.
• Results‑oriented mindset with a focus on sustainable account development.
