Mining Accountant

About the role

My client, based in Sandton, Johannesburg, is seeking an Accountant to support its mining and export operations. The role involves end‑to‑end financial management, ensuring compliance, accuracy and transparency across all financial functions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and ensure compliance with SARS, the Companies Act, SARB and mining/export regulations.
• Coordinate internal and external audits and manage VAT, UIF and other statutory submissions.
• Monitor operational costs, assist with budgeting, rolling forecasts and variance analysis for mining, logistics and export activities.
• Oversee weekly and monthly inventory reconciliations, fixed‑asset registrations and ensure accurate warehouse stock reporting.
• Review and approve supplier invoices in Xero, aligning them with contracts, GRNs, tonnages and VAT regulations; manage customer invoicing for shipments.
• Maintain export‑related financial documentation such as Bills of Lading, Certificates of Origin, SAD500s and ensure all shipment costs are captured.

Required profile

• BCom in Finance or Accounting; Articles qualification is beneficial.
• Experience in the mining industry or with mining clients, preferably handling export operations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero accounting software.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and VAT compliance.
• Experience in ERP implementation and financial controls.
