Migration Health Officer (Expedited Recruitment)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Migration Health Officer to manage the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Pretoria, South Africa. This expedited recruitment is open to internal and internal‑equivalent candidates and operates under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer.

Key responsibilities

• Organise and supervise the MHAC’s migration health assessment process, covering medical examinations, imaging, laboratory testing, vaccinations, TB management, treatment referrals, pre‑departure procedures and documentation.
• Conduct health assessments for refugees and migrants, including review of medical history, physical examination, chest X‑ray evaluation and laboratory results in line with resettlement country guidelines.
• Maintain MHAC infrastructure and equipment to meet professional quality and safety standards.
• Coordinate with the Chief Migration Health Officer, human resources and the MHAC organisational structure to ensure adequate staffing levels and appropriate qualifications.
• Develop and manage a network of external resources such as consultants and medical escorts to support health assessments and travel assistance.
• Inform the Chief Migration Health Officer of MHAC activities and ensure IOM medical facilities have the necessary approvals for health assessments.

Required profile

• Reports to the Chief of Mission and the Chief Migration Health Officer.
• Responsible for the overall management of the Migration Health Assessment Centre in Pretoria.
