Mechanical Fitter – Manufacturing (Cape Town)

About the role

An established manufacturing and processing operation is seeking a qualified Mechanical Fitter to join its maintenance team. The role involves hands‑on work on high‑capacity machinery that moves and processes heavy materials in a demanding plant environment.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain and repair plant machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Perform planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance, including hydraulic and lubrication systems.
• Diagnose mechanical and hydraulic faults and carry out effective repairs.
• Fit, assemble, set up and adjust parts, components and equipment such as shears, conveyors and gearboxes.
• Complete maintenance records while upholding safety, housekeeping and operational standards.

Required profile

• Recognised Trade Test Certificate in Mechanical Fitting (Red Seal) – essential.
• 4–5 years post‑trade experience in a heavy industrial, manufacturing or production environment.
• Strong hands‑on hydraulic maintenance and fault‑finding experience.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and safely use fitting, hand and power tools.
• Physically fit, safety‑conscious, able to work at heights and in demanding conditions.
