Mechanical Engineer / Site Agent

About the role

Our client is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer / Site Agent to join a growing project team in Pretoria. The role involves overseeing large‑scale mechanical and civil infrastructure works, ensuring compliance with specifications, and delivering projects on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct feasibility studies and prepare cost estimates for materials, labour and time.
• Prepare, negotiate and analyse tender and contract costs.
• Manage procurement of mechanical equipment and materials.
• Coordinate with engineers, architects and consultants; review drawings, design specifications and equipment schedules.
• Supervise installation of HVAC, plumbing, fire‑protection and other mechanical systems.
• Inspect installations for compliance with codes and standards.
• Lead commissioning, performance testing and snag resolution; maintain QA/QC records.
• Ensure compliance with mechanical codes and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Coordinate mechanical works with electrical, civil and structural trades.
• Design and implement equipment modifications, including HVAC design.
• Prepare O&M manuals, as‑built drawings and commissioning certificates; facilitate handover to clients.

Required profile

• National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) and a Mechanical/Civil Engineering Diploma, Degree or BSc (Honours).
• Registered with ECSA as a Candidate Engineering Professional.
• Minimum 5 years experience in construction projects, with at least 2 years in a management role.
• Experience as site agent on steel pipe projects (≥ 450 mm diameter) and concrete reservoirs (≥ 10 m³).
• Strong ability to analyse drawings and designs, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
