Mechanical Engineer – HVAC Specialist

About the role

WSP is expanding its Mechanical Services team and seeks a Mechanical Engineer with a focus on HVAC. The role involves delivering high‑quality mechanical designs for building services projects, primarily in the HVAC domain, while supporting related disciplines such as medical gases, utilities, and fire engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Lead HVAC design from concept through to close‑out, including heat‑load and ventilation calculations.
• Prepare and review tender documentation, Bills of Quantities, and manage the tender process.
• Specify and approve specialist equipment in line with project requirements.
• Coordinate with contractors and oversee contract administration for mechanical works.
• Maintain client relationships, understand their needs, and deliver tailored solutions.
• Manage project scope, cost control, and schedule to meet quality and budget targets.

Required profile

• B.Eng., B.Sc. Eng. or B.Tech. Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in building services consulting.
• Ability to work independently and lead small teams.
• Strong communication and technical report writing skills.

Required skills

• HVAC design and calculation (heat‑load, ventilation).
• Proficiency with HVAC software such as HAP, Loadest, IES.
• Experience using BIM tools – AutoCAD, Revit, BIM360.
• Manual air‑psychrometric analysis.
• Knowledge of South African National Standards (SANS) and familiarity with BS and ASHRAE standards.
• Preparation of Bills of Quantities and tender documentation.
• Contractor and contract management within the mechanical discipline.
