Mechanical Engineer – Durbanville (Cape Town)

About the role

We are seeking a mid‑level Mechanical Engineer to join a company specialising in capital drilling equipment. The role involves in‑house design, project management and providing technical guidance across the product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead multiple design and development projects from concept to delivery, ensuring compliance with company policies and safety standards.
• Perform strength calculations, FEA/simulation, and 3D CAD modelling using SolidWorks.
• Generate manufacturing data packs, including BOMs, quality control plans, work instructions and manuals.
• Review engineering deliverables, monitor code and specification compliance, and initiate corrective actions when needed.
• Prepare detailed progress reports and inspection reviews for management and customers.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians, and supervise personnel on project sites.

Required profile

• 3–6 years of experience in a relevant mechanical engineering environment.
• BSc Eng or BEng in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Excellent organisational, planning and time‑management abilities.
• Good understanding of fabrication, boiler making/welding and precision machining.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (3D CAD modelling).
• SolidWorks Simulation or Abaqus (FEA).
• Mathcad, MATLAB or similar engineering calculation tools.
• MS Word, MS Excel and MS Teams.
• Strength calculations from first principles.
• BOM creation and manufacturing data‑pack preparation.
