Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Our client, a global leader in the mining and heavy equipment sector, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and systems for demanding mining environments. The role involves turning concepts into high‑quality engineering solutions while ensuring reliability and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and systems.
• Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Perform engineering calculations, analyses and design evaluations.
• Support product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality and project engineering teams.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety requirements and customer specifications.
• Participate in prototype development, testing and validation activities.
• Identify and implement cost‑effective and innovative engineering solutions.

Required profile

• BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years post‑graduate mechanical design experience.
• At least 2 years experience in the mining or automotive industry.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in mechanical design and CAD software.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals.
• Experience with component design, product development and engineering documentation.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials selection.
