Mechanical Design Engineer (Heavy Equipment)

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to design, analyse and develop mechanical systems and components for our raise borer and drilling equipment. The role involves applying advanced engineering principles to deliver safe, reliable and manufacturable solutions for demanding underground conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems, components and equipment.
• Perform engineering calculations, analysis and design verification.
• Create 3D models, manufacturing drawings and technical documentation.
• Support prototype builds, testing and commissioning.
• Optimise designs for performance, reliability and manufacturability.
• Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain and operations teams.
• Provide engineering solutions that meet safety, quality and operational requirements.

Required profile

• BEng/BSc Mechanical Engineering.
• Registration as Candidate Engineer with ECSA, with a clear pathway to Pr.Eng.
• 5‑8 years' experience in mechanical design of heavy rotating or drilling equipment.
• Experience in mining, drilling or heavy equipment OEM environments.
• Experience in hydraulic systems design and hydraulically‑driven equipment.
• Proven experience in CAD modelling, engineering drawings and calculations.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Medically fit for underground and operational site visits.

Required skills

• Advanced Autodesk Inventor.
• FEA tools such as ANSYS, Inventor Nastran or equivalent.
• Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA).
• PLM systems (Vault, Windchill).
• Hydraulic systems design.
