Mechanical Design Draughtsperson

About the role

Do you enjoy turning ideas into practical mechanical designs and seeing those ideas become real machinery? Dormas is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Draughtsperson to join its engineering team in Johannesburg South, designing specialised machinery for the fruit and vegetable industry.

Key responsibilities

• Create detailed 3D mechanical designs and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor for conveyors, packline equipment and related systems.
• Produce accurate manufacturing and fabrication drawings with dimensions, tolerances, material specifications and assembly details.
• Resolve design and manufacturing problems, implement design changes and provide feedback on completed machinery.
• Maintain up‑to‑date technical documentation and drawing records in line with company procedures.
• Read and apply customer specifications to contract‑specific orders.
• Liaise with sales, engineering, purchasing, production and quality departments to ensure project accuracy and timely delivery.
• Assist the sales team with technical queries and provide detailed drawings as needed.

Required profile

• Formal qualification or recognised training in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering or a related field (preferably N5/N6 or equivalent).
• Minimum of 2 years practical mechanical draughting experience in a drawing office.
• Strong proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
• Experience with Autodesk Vault, iParts and iAssemblies is highly advantageous.
• Ability to apply practical mechanical manufacturing knowledge to ensure designs are functional, cost‑effective and manufacturable.
