Mechanic Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Mechanic Assistant to support qualified Diesel Mechanics in the maintenance and repair of diesel‑powered vehicles and equipment. Working in a busy workshop, you will gain hands‑on experience while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with planned maintenance and breakdown repairs on diesel vehicles, engines, and mechanical components.
• Help disassemble, inspect, clean, assemble and test vehicle and engine parts under supervision.
• Support routine servicing such as oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication and fluid level checks.
• Assist in diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic tools.
• Participate in repairs of engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, cooling and fuel systems.
• Maintain proper use, handling and storage of tools, equipment and workshop materials.
• Keep the workshop clean, organized and compliant with OHS requirements.
• Complete administrative tasks including service checklists, labour time recording and documentation.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
• Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate (completed or currently registered as an Apprentice/Assistant).
