Materials Specialist – Fuels, Lubes & Tyres (Africa & Middle East)

About the role

The Materials Specialist – Fuels, Lubes & Tyres will lead the end‑to‑end supply, commercial and technical management of fuel, lubricants and tyres across all Barrick sites in Africa and the Middle East. Reporting to the Supply Operations Manager AME, the role ensures supply security, cost optimisation and alignment with maintenance requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Manage regional fuel supply contracts, pricing mechanisms and supplier performance.
• Oversee fuel logistics, storage, bulk handling and site consumption, implementing loss‑control processes.
• Maintain stock levels, demand planning and conduct regular audits of fuel and lubricants.
• Own the regional Fuel Management System (FMS), drive automated dispensing, tank gauging and telemetry, and integrate data with SAP MM/FI.
• Design and act on exception reports, monitor diesel price indices and advise on pricing strategies.
• Develop a standardised lubrication programme and manage lube supplier relationships.
• Define the regional tyre strategy, implement Tyre Management Systems (TMS) and drive cost‑reduction initiatives.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Supply Chain, Engineering or a related field.
• 7+ years experience managing fuel, lubricants or tyre categories in a heavy mining or resources environment.
• Technical understanding of mining equipment and associated consumables.
