Materials Engineer

About the role

Manages daily warehouse operations while ensuring technical compliance of inbound and outbound automotive components. The role bridges physical inventory management, health, safety & environment, and engineering quality standards within an automotive assembly plant for a Tier 1 supplier.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and schedule warehouse staff, forklift operators, and material handlers.
• Support inventory controller with physical audits and SAP/WMS inventory tracking.
• Coordinate timely inbound receipts and outbound JIT deliveries to OEM customers.
• Enforce OSHA regulations, 5S standards and safe material handling practices.
• Oversee all warehouse transactions in the WMS, including goods receipts, stock transfers and production staging.
• Ensure JIT and JIS material delivery to seat assembly and sewing lines.
• Manage utilization, maintenance logs and charging schedules for forklifts, reach trucks and electric tugs, and coordinate with external vendors for rapid repairs.
• Inspect incoming raw materials against specifications, quarantine non‑conforming items and conduct root‑cause analysis with quality engineers.
• Develop and implement specialized storage solutions to protect sensitive textiles and other materials.

Required profile

• Minimum Matric (Grade 12) or a diploma/graduate qualification in Operations Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
• At least three years of supervisory experience in seating assembly at a Tier 1 automotive supplier.

Required skills

• High proficiency in ERP/WMS systems (SAP, WMS).
• Basic Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
• Strong working knowledge of automotive standards (IMS/IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14000).
