Manager, Research Investments

About the role

The Manager, Research Investments will lead Liberty's manager research function from Johannesburg. This senior position ensures a consistent, global approach to evaluating and rating investment managers, directly influencing portfolio decisions and fund selection.

Key responsibilities

• Apply a global manager‑research framework that blends quantitative and qualitative assessments.
• Coordinate the full due‑diligence questionnaire (DDQ) cycle, from distribution to detailed review.
• Schedule and lead meetings with current and prospective investment managers to probe strategies, processes and team dynamics.
• Analyse investment strategies, performance data, risk‑management practices and operational capabilities.
• Synthesise findings into concise research outputs and present recommendations to the Manager Research Committee.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the manager‑research methodology.

Required profile

• First‑degree qualification in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Engineering, Analytics or a related quantitative field.
• 5–7 years of experience in asset/portfolio management with a focus on investment or manager research.
• Proven ability to conduct thorough due‑diligence, analyse complex investment strategies and produce high‑quality research reports.
• Strong analytical mindset with the capacity to interpret data rationally and challenge assumptions.
• Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and confidence in presenting findings to senior committees.
