Manager, Project Management Unit (PMU) – Municipal Projects

About the role

The Municipality seeks an experienced professional to lead its Project Management Unit (PMU). The role involves overseeing municipal infrastructure projects, managing budgets, and ensuring service delivery aligns with strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Direct financial management, monitor risks, and align budget allocations with Integrated Development Plan (IDP) priorities.
• Develop and cascade short‑term and long‑term project plans, allocate resources, and create contingency and risk‑aversion strategies.
• Establish monitoring systems for project progress, report on IDP deliverables, and manage capital and MIG grant funding.
• Coordinate with municipal departments, oversee complex contracts, and ensure compliance with national finance legislation.
• Lead project teams, manage stakeholder expectations, and drive capacity‑building initiatives across projects.

Required profile

• BSc/BEng or BTech in Civil Engineering or Project Management (or equivalent).
• Eligibility for registration as Professional Engineer/Technician or SACPCMP.
• Minimum 8 years post‑registration experience, including at least 5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
• Valid driver’s licence and proven computer literacy.
