Maintenance Technician / Handyman – Retail Centre

About the role

Our client, a leading property management company, is looking for a Maintenance Technician/Handyman to ensure the smooth operation of a retail centre in Cape Town’s Northern Suburbs. The role combines routine building inspections with hands‑on repairs across plumbing, carpentry, electrical and other trade areas.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect buildings daily, checking doors, lights, security fixtures and tenant‑requested maintenance.
• Perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance on air‑conditioning units, generators, water pumps, solar panels and fire‑safety equipment.
• Maintain and replace fittings in toilets, manage lighting in common areas and ensure all electrical distribution boards are secure.
• Coordinate with the Helpdesk/Service Manager to log work orders, order consumables and track repair outcomes.
• Assist tenants during move‑ins, handle partition relocations and ensure premises meet hand‑over standards.

Required profile

• Matriculation (or equivalent) plus a Handyperson Course Certificate; trade qualification is an advantage.
• Proven experience as a handyman in a commercial or retail building environment, with strong plumbing background preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to liaise with tenants and work collaboratively with building management.
