Logistics Controller

About the role

Wilhelmsen Port Services South Africa is seeking an experienced Logistics Import & Export Controller to join its Maritime Logistics team. The role involves overseeing end‑to‑end freight forwarding, customs clearance and sea‑freight operations for a variety of cargo types, ensuring smooth and compliant movement of goods.

Key responsibilities

• Manage import and export shipments from instruction receipt to final delivery.
• Coordinate containerised, bulk, break‑bulk and liquid‑bulk shipments and register them in Cargo Wise.
• Prepare and process customs entries, supporting documentation and specialised procedures such as Home Consumption, XDP, WH, WE, XRW.
• Handle VOCs, DA70s, CR1 refunds, customs amendments and liquid‑bulk documentation (DPs, quantity views, price adjustments).
• Liaise with SARS Customs, Transnet, shipping lines, transporters and relevant government agencies.
• Arrange shipping line releases, landing orders, cargo dues and necessary inspections or permits.
• Monitor vessel arrivals, berth schedules, free days and coordinate transport, container unpacking and empty returns to minimise demurrage.
• Prepare freight estimates, obtain competitive rates and resolve shipment, customs and invoicing queries.
• Process supplier invoices, balance shipping line and bond accounts and produce operational reports.

Required profile

• Minimum five years’ experience in freight forwarding, customs clearing and international logistics.
• Strong knowledge of SARS Customs legislation and customs procedures.
• Proven experience handling containerised, bulk, break‑bulk and liquid‑bulk cargo.
• Hands‑on experience with customs entry types and related documentation.
• Experience with ship spares and vessel clearances is highly advantageous.
