Locum Appointment for Training (ST3+) in Geriatric Medicine

About the role
This is a one‑year locum appointment for Specialty Registrars at ST3 level or above, based primarily in the Geriatric Medicine service at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The role runs from 5 August 2026 to 3 August 2027 and includes work across acute, sub‑acute, rehabilitation and community settings.
Key responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive geriatric assessment and management on the 25‑bed Geriatric Assessment Unit and the 14‑bed sub‑acute ward.
- Participate in rehabilitation services at Woodend Hospital and continuing‑care activities at Morningfield House.
- Work rotational shifts covering evenings, weekends and overnight duties.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and teaching sessions.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to NHS Scotland governance standards.
Required profile
- Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC, in place before start date.
- Completion of a UKFPO‑affiliated foundation programme or equivalent.
- Achievement of Internal Medicine Stage 1 competencies.
- Full MRCP UK qualification or an equivalent credential.
- Experience in a range of acute medical specialties; geriatric experience desirable but not essential.
Required skills
- Competence in acute medical assessment and management.
- Ability to work effectively in shift patterns, including nights and weekends.
- Strong communication skills for multidisciplinary collaboration.
