Literacy Trainer

About the role

The Literacy Trainer is a full‑time, on‑site position based in the Vhembe district of South Africa. You will work directly with teachers and education practitioners, using READ’s proven methodologies to strengthen literacy instruction and improve learner outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Design and facilitate literacy‑focused training workshops for educators.
• Support teachers in implementing lesson plans and classroom activities.
• Observe classroom practice, provide constructive feedback and coaching.
• Adapt and develop training materials to suit local contexts.
• Maintain accurate training records and contribute to monitoring and evaluation efforts.
• Collaborate with school leadership, colleagues and external stakeholders to ensure consistent program delivery.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in education, teaching, or literacy instruction.
• Relevant qualification in Education, Literacy, Language or a related field.
• Experience working in under‑resourced schools or communities is an advantage.
• Ability to travel within the Vhembe district and to partner schools as needed.
• Strong organisational skills and reliability in documentation.

Required skills

• Fluency in Xitsonga and/or Tshivenda.
