Legal Recovery Consultant

About the role

Nimble Legal manages a large legal recovery portfolio covering pre‑litigation, post‑summons litigation, enforcement and settlement for SME, commercial and high‑balance bank‑originated accounts. The Legal Recovery Consultant will engage directly with debtors and sureties to secure payments, settlements or structured payment arrangements, working under the guidance of an internal attorney.

Key responsibilities

• Engage debtors and sureties at pre‑litigation and post‑summons stages through focused telephone and written communication, applying a structured, time‑bound approach.
• Negotiate settlements and payment plans within approved parameters, prepare settlement agreements and monitor compliance.
• Escalate non‑responsive or non‑compliant matters for further legal action and maintain accurate records and reporting in internal systems.

Required profile

• LLB degree with completed articles of clerkship (candidates awaiting admission welcome).
• Demonstrable litigation or debt‑collection exposure during articles (e.g., summonses, default judgments, enforcement).
• Working knowledge of South African civil litigation process and professional communication with debtors.
• Assertiveness and negotiation aptitude, strong organisational and record‑keeping capability.
• Ability to work to defined targets, performance metrics and approval parameters.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Experience with digital communication tools.
