Legal Officer (Paralegal)

About the role

The Paralegal / Legal Officer will support the General Counsel across mothers2mothers’ South African and multi‑country operations. This position ensures robust contract management, sound governance, and regulatory compliance within a donor‑funded NGO environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review, track and manage legal agreements such as MOUs, NDAs, DPAs, consultant and vendor contracts, sub‑grants and leases.
• Maintain contract templates, trackers and support signature and filing processes.
• Support corporate governance activities, including statutory records, board and committee documentation, and entity compliance.
• Assist with data‑protection compliance (POPIA/GDPR), maintaining privacy registers and confidential legal records.
• Coordinate litigation administration and liaise with external legal counsel.
• Support legal research, internal training and upkeep of legal and policy knowledge resources.

Required profile

• Law degree (LLB or equivalent).
• Admitted attorney or significant experience as a senior paralegal/legal officer.
• Minimum of 3 years relevant legal or paralegal experience.
• Strong contract management and legal administration abilities.
• Experience in an NGO or donor‑funded environment is advantageous.
• Exposure to governance or company secretarial work.
• Familiarity with POPIA, GDPR and multi‑jurisdictional operations.
