Legal Counsel (Regulatory and Compliance)

About the role

The Takealot Group is seeking a Legal Counsel specialised in Regulatory and Compliance to join its Cape Town legal team. You will help safeguard the company’s operations by ensuring compliance with South African legislation and relevant international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Research and interpret legislation on product compliance, consumer protection, competition law and trade regulations.
• Support the design, implementation and continuous improvement of monitoring and oversight mechanisms for the regulatory and compliance programme.
• Draft and maintain template legal documents and provide clear regulatory advice to business units.
• Assist in dispute resolution, regulatory litigation and the preparation of legal opinions.
• Stay updated on legal developments and advise on their impact to the business.
• Develop and deliver training programmes to raise staff awareness of compliance obligations.

Required profile

• LLB degree and admission as an attorney or advocate in South Africa.
• 1‑3 years post‑admission experience in a law firm, bar or in‑house legal department.
• Demonstrated experience in regulatory and/or compliance law.
• Knowledge of e‑commerce, retail or litigation law is advantageous.
