Legal Advisor – Litigation & Collections

About the role

The Legal Advisor – Litigation will provide professional, comprehensive legal advice and support on litigation and collection matters for Transnet Property. Reporting to the Senior Manager Legal, the role ensures that the organisation operates within the law and safeguards its legal interests across corporate, property and administrative law.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all litigation and collection matters for or against Transnet Property, ensuring compliance with legal policy and the PFMA.
• Engage, consult and give instructions to external attorneys, panel counsel, and relevant stakeholders throughout court and arbitration processes.
• Prepare and review court/arbitration documents, manage legal invoices, and monitor the legal budget.
• Conduct legal research, draft legal opinions, and provide written and verbal advice to regional management.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal risks, aiming to reduce pending litigation cases and associated costs.
• Maintain relationships with panel attorneys and ensure proper implementation of a litigation and collection management system.

Required profile

• Qualified attorney with experience in corporate, property and administrative law.
• Proven track record in managing litigation, arbitration and collection matters.
• Strong understanding of the PFMA and relevant South African legislation.
• Excellent analytical, research and drafting abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
