Lecturer – Veterinary/Nursing Elective Practice Programme Coordinator

About the role

The University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Veterinary Science seeks a Lecturer to coordinate the Veterinary/Nursing Elective Practice Programme within the Dean’s Office. This full‑time academic position involves overseeing the elective module, supporting students in extramural training, and linking the university with external practice sites.

Key responsibilities

• Organise and manage the Veterinary/Nursing Elective Practice module as the academic coordinator.
• Monitor and evaluate students placed in veterinary practices, clinics, or community‑based sites, ensuring compliance with BVSc and BVN syllabus requirements.
• Develop guidance documents and mentorship for students to achieve Day‑One competency skills.
• Build and maintain partnerships with external clinics, farms and community organisations; create an internal accreditation system for practice sites.
• Conduct random practice screenings, collect feedback, and apply corrective actions to maintain academic standards.
• Deliver lectures, seminars, tutorials and assessments; support curriculum development and faculty research activities.
• Undertake limited weeks of clinical activities at OVAH, preferably in community clinics, to keep clinical skills current.

Required profile

• Post Level 8 academic rank (Lecturer) within the University of Pretoria.
• Experience in coordinating veterinary or nursing elective practice programmes.
• Familiarity with BVSc/BVN syllabus and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to mentor students and evaluate extramural training outcomes.
