Lecturer / Senior Lecturer – New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP)

About the role

The University of Pretoria invites applications for a permanent Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position within the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP). The role is designed for early‑career academics who are passionate about teaching, research and advancing equity in higher education.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in a formal development programme to strengthen research and lecturing skills.
• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Architecture.
• Mentor and supervise postgraduate students.
• Conduct collaborative research in specialised areas.
• Represent the university nationally and internationally.
• Complete a PhD programme if not already finished.
• Undertake limited departmental administrative duties.

Required profile

• Lecturer: Master’s degree with at least 70 % average in a relevant discipline; strong potential for undergraduate teaching and research.
• Senior Lecturer: Doctoral degree; proven teaching experience; record of publications and successful postgraduate supervision.
• Architecture focus: Professional Master’s in Architecture or a five‑year BArch plus a relevant Master’s, or a Doctorate in Architecture or a related field; interest in Circular Construction, Building Integrated Modelling and Computational Design.
• Applicants must be 40 years or younger, from under‑represented groups, and committed to an academic career.
