About the role
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town seeks a dynamic academic to teach and conduct research in electro‑mechanical engineering and related mechatronics areas.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality undergraduate teaching and supervise student research projects.
- Develop and maintain an active research programme, publish in reputable journals and secure external funding.
- Contribute to curriculum development and academic administration.
- Supervise postgraduate dissertations and mentor junior staff.
Required profile
- BSc(Eng) in Mechanical, Electro‑Mechanical, Mechatronics or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
- MSc with focus on analogue electronics, embedded systems and control systems.
- Minimum two years of practical experience with analogue electronics and embedded systems in academia or industry.
- Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer.
- Preferably a PhD and a demonstrable research track record, teaching experience, industry links and success in obtaining research funding.

What we offer
- Senior Lecturer remuneration: R 649 534 per annum (including benefits).
- Lecturer remuneration: R 528 275 per annum (including benefits).
